Days at Chateau Aulix

Just a few days ago we did not know a woman named Nora who celebrated her 102 birthday yesterday. What a delight to meet her as she continues to enjoy life with her daughter Cynthia and extended family and friends in this lovely part of the Mid Pyrenees region of France. We happily are staying next door at the Chateau Aulix, dating from the 12 century, now a delightful Chambres d'Hotes, in the community of Lapeyrere. The proprietors Claude and Myriam are warm and welcoming helping us with the intricate complications of visa registration.

We were part of the celebrations and enjoyed a glass of champagne as we toasted Nora, an intrepid English woman, who moved here 16 years ago from Sussex and who has become part of the community. Flowers and cards and family descended and wonderful food consumed. Today Nora is back completing her complicated Sudoku and having a rest from all the excitement. No letter from the Queen this year. However, at 105 Her Highness dispatches another. We look forward to another great celebration and the framing of Queen's letter # 2.
Today we enjoy the warm sunshine and the lazy sound of bees in the ripe figs and late-blooming flowers at Chateau Aulix, overlooking a magnificent view of the Pyrenees.
